About Lewes Children's Book Group (registered charity no. 268289)
Who are we? Lewes Children's Book Group was founded in 1974 to bring children and books together. A branch of the national Federation of Children's Book Groups, we are a charity aiming to promote young people's enjoyment of reading. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in children's books, and we always welcome new members. We were one of the Mayor of Lewes' chosen charities for 2015/16.
What do we do? LCBG supports book-related activities in Lewes, East Sussex, including:
Our popular bookswaps, held three times a year at the Depot cinema.
Visits by authors and illustrators to local schools and community events, to encourage and inspire young readers and writers. LCBG works with local families, community groups and schools to promote the enjoyment of reading.
An annual talk for adults on a theme linked to children's books/publishing/reading.
Voting for the Children's Book Award. We provide copies of the shortlisted books for members' families and local schools to read and vote on.
Book donations - we donate books to local schools, charities, doctors' and dentists' surgeries.
